When I started this post it was still Friday so I think this will count as another flashback Friday post, even if it ends up being published after midnight. I was recently going through old pictures on my mom's old laptop (which she has had since 2005, by the way), and I came across all the great pictures we took during our adventures in India. Seeing those photos made made me think about how truly lucky I have been to see so much of the world. It made me realize that I have been able to experience some pretty unique things. This is why I thought it would be fun to share those experiences here with you. This series of photos were taken at a camel fair in the desert of Pushkar in Rajasthan, India. I had no idea that camel fairs were even a thing so this was a very very cool experience. This trip took place back in 2005 so my memories of it are slightly faded, but some aspects of it remain quite vivid in my mind. The first picture shows our beautiful "first class accommodations" on the roof of a little B&B. It was particularly fun to wake up every morning at 5am to the prayers and chants being blasted through loudspeakers from all the Hindu temples in the vicinity. We happened to be in Pushkar during the week of some religious festival so the streets were always full of people observing the processions that were taking place all day. We got to and from the fair grounds on a camel drawn cart. I remember seeing the faces of the kids at the fair, completely fascinated by the foreigners. They would stare at all European-looking people as they rarely got to see such pale faces or blue eyes. Some would come up to us asking to hold our hands, or if we had things like soap or cream to give them, amenities I personally take for granted; things they have no access to. It was a wonderful, eye-opening experience and reminiscing tonight has been a lot of fun. I'll be back with more India posts soon!
